The rising cost of Freestyle, I was quite surprised to read this article and was a little shocked as to see hypothetically what the artists were making for a freestyle act during that era. Even if they were new to the scene, with an entourage of dancers and a road manager. I thought with their hits played on heavy rotation on the radio they would receive a lot more for their performance. I know that today in the music climate of what it is, and a lot of people are rediscovering their appreciation and admiration for this music that the artists are more in demand today and being paid their worth. There is an artist of the freestyle genre who I have driven countless hours to see perform whenever I get a chance to. Their songs are still played on the radio to this day, this individual works quite a lot and I'm sure makes quite a comfortable living.

It appears that iteration of KTU must have faced some serious competition when it evolved into a CHR station. Regarding Metro's issues booking NYC shows, who knew that it would be a blessing in disguise? Going beyond the 5 boroughs was the best way to go. I remember Collage and Lil Suzy's songs getting numerous spins on my then-fledgling local CHR station (one that's outside the NYC radio market) in the early '90s. Even our then-legacy CHR outlet that its upstart competitor forced to flip to country in the early '90s gave Noel, Company B, Timmy T and Stevie B some spins by the end of the '80s.

Yes, I remember it clearly. The entire format flipped. I truly believe that we would've been totally screwed had Social Media not come around. Agree?

I agree. The technology that came around in the mid-to-late '90s ended up opening the world up for lots of musicians. Social media's rise in the noughties helped even more. Myspace reintroduced me to Lisette Melendez's "Together Forever" through a friend's account on that site.
